The Hurricanes were formed in 1999 to compete in the Boston Open, NPPL. After taking 6th place, the team decided to stay together to play national 10-man events. From 1999 to 2002 the team played in 17 10-man events, making the semi-finals 13 times.
In 2003, the Hurricanes moved from 10-man to X-Ball. We picked up players from NY and started practicing almost every weekend with NYX. We ended up taking 3rd place in LA, 1st in Las Vegas and 2nd at the World Cup, finishing the year as the 3rd ranked Division 2 X-Ball team. This was the introduction of the Adrenaline Junkies to the team. They were the new kids back then, but help make up the core of the team today - Rob, Rico, Brian, Dan & Son.
In 2004, the team moved away from X-Ball and became the flagship team for Redz International. We played in the NPPL Super-7 Series as a professional team, taking on the name of our primary sponsor and playing as the Redz Hurricanes. We exceeded our expectations in 2004, placing in the semi-finals at 4 events and posting victories over such impressive teams as Shock, Infamous, Ironmen, Joy Division, NYX, Nexus and others. We finished the year as the 9th ranked Pro team.
Going into 2005, the team and Redz separated, and the team brought back its original name, the New England Hurricanes. Supported by our new sponsors; Planet Eclipse, XO Industries, Custom Sports Gear, East Side Paintball Park, R7 and DYE, we continued in the NPPL Pro division and finished the season ranked 8th.
2006 saw more changes, Alien guns, Boston Paintball, BOSTON..... a tournament in the HomeTown!! Boston NPPL had to have been one of the best events of the season. Fans going nuts in the stands while the Canes rolled teams like XSV and the Ironmen... four top 8 finishes would lead to an 8th place finish for the season. The team also got into the NXL in 2006, joining forces with New York Xtreme (our old practice partners).
And 2007? We can't wait to see what this year has in store, but getting off to a great start. The two teams have now merged into one, we will be formally known as the Boston Hurricanes in the NPPL Super 7 Series and New York Hurricanes in the NXL. We have signed major deals with Planet Eclipse, KEE Sports, Redz and of course of Boston Paintball... and we picked up some old favorites during the off season... to that we say Welcome Home Boys!
2007 get ready...a storm is brewing.........
