In Son's Words.... Raw and Real

                                             Hurra Hurra's 2007

Well to say the least its been an interesting season for us . We've had our ups and downs and all arounds all year long , but all in all with all the drama  and shenanigans it has been the most successful for us as well. So here i am, Stephen Dabilis A.K.A "Son" of the New England Hurricanes - to break down the 2007 season .

Xball :  As you could see we didn't do so hot in the NXL this year . We came out in L.A. pretty confident after a practice with the All A's and playing well. After our first match with Trauma our heads were still high, but then it was downhill from there for the rest of that event after losing to the Ironmen and to Infamous. Just going to throw it out there - we played Infamous every event and didn’t beat them once, which sucked. But anyway - the next event and throughout the year we went through most of the season with our own players  not going to the first match sometimes to sometimes showing up and not being prepared at all. Our coaching staff would be all of one person, John Necco who went from being Rosie's right hand man to trying to run the Xball team by himself, which you could see wasn't easy. Our biggest problem I think with our Xball team was that sometimes people would come to play, other times people were their just as a body, not to mention for the first three events or four i don't really remember  - we lead the league in penalties… cough " penalty poo" cough. As far as matches went themselves, we never got blown out of the water, we would win at least one of our matches each event and like I said earlier we would always end up playing Infamous which - no matter what we did - for some reason we just couldn’t beat them  at Xball , and whoever else we would play we would just step on our dicks. And finally at the end of the season we squeeked into the World Cup because Trauma didn't close it out at the last event against XSV which allowed us to go to the cup. Again like clockwork, we went finished the last event of the year with 1 win and 2 losses. Don’t get me wrong -  it wasn't like we took Xball as a joke , we practiced our asses off had multiple 2 day practices  and sometimes playing those 2 days from about 9 am to 4 in the evening. But it is what it is and depending on what the format is next year we WILL improve in Xball and become top contender's in the NXL.

NPPL 7-Man : Now onto 7man. 7man was without a question, our strong point. We went to Huntington Beach without one of our starters due to i don't even know why , not going to really get into it. But anywho we go to HB do farely well , make it to sunday , and only win a few games , not enough to get us into the top 4. This was startin to get pretty annoying , consistantly making it to sunday and not moving on , we were still as close as we've ever been. We're "Stuck" is what io think one of the guys said , as it stayed the same. We continued onto Tampa and not even making it on sunday  and just having internal team issues with people fighting, not doing their jobson and off the field.   BOSTON , Let me tell you about Boston . Do you know what it feels like to have everyone cheer for you , friends , family , all eyes on you . And you suck , the team did not perform to even a 3rd of what our potential was and it was heartbreaking , that tournament we let ourselves our fans and sponsors down and it killed us , heartbroken to not even be contending for top 4 in our hometown. But thats in the past i can almost guarntee that we will never have an upset in our backyard like that again.  Which brings us to KC , it was the first event welcoming back Lil Bill , and Two Guns Thomas Mantoni A.K.A " Dad" he knows what that means. Im not goin to praise these kids they should have made the move at the beginning of the season and we would have been making top four all season. But havoin them back deffinately improved our team they are great players ask anyone they are game breakers. And it showed they deffinately filled the spots we were missing on the field , and for the first time in hurricane history we made top 4 losing the first series to Impact and taking down Trauma  for 3rd place . it was a good feeling to finally realize that it finally happend. But now being their it wasn't enough we were all hungry now for the first , and though about this being the last year , not anymore can't hang up the jersey till i get the first and thats the way the whole team felt. Saints Diago finally came and having a snowy rainy 2day with jersey authority and a practice at Fox 4 paintball  , we went to the event with high expectations , and with our KC crew we managed to take top four again and now people are finally respecting us and aware that we're no joke . we ended up playing dynasty  for first and second losing one game winning the second and dynasty winning the third puttin us out of the 1st and 2nd race which pissed us off cause now anything but a first is a dissapointment . And will continue to be until we are consistantly taking 1st and 2nd. So the seasons over now , but we are more then ready for winter training for 2008 . So be looking for us next year for more then two podiums next season., and an improvement in Xball .  Thanks for the support we'll see your next year , Peace ..

9/26/07 - Well it's finally official.... HURRICANES TAKE 3RD in KC!

After some down to the wire heroics by Dan "Cabbage" Savioe and Alex MacMaster - pulling off a magnificant MUST WIN victory to make the Sunday Club...the boys celebrated atop the PODIUM!!!!

9/6/07 - Two More Familiar Faces Come Home

HOT Off The Press is that The Hurricanes are about to pick up Billy Bernacchia and Thomas Mantoni.

Billy first joined the team in 2005. He left at the end of the season for Arsenal and the Raiders.

Thomas has a long history with the team that includes parts of the 2002, 2003 and 2004 seasons. He last was on the team in 2005, after which he quit for Arsenal and the Raiders.

Both of these guys are very good players, maybe even great players, with a long history of playing with the Canes. They 'WILL' make the Hurricanes better, on the field and off it.

Both the NEW signings will only be eligible to play 7-man with the Hurricanes. They will either finish the year with Doc in the NXL or find a D1 team to play with. The NXL rosters have locked, so the Hurricanes cant pick them up for X-Ball.

3/6/07 - LAO in Rob's Words....

It's early and I would rather do anything then study for my accounting exam...so I figured id fill everyone in on how the LAO went. Well were do I start, we flew in weds morning to walk fields and what not something that we never did last year as NYX. But, this year is different we have a dedicated team with the capabilities to be a top four team consistently. Our capabilities shined through on our first match against trauma on Thursday. It was the last match of the day and frankly it was personally my most anticipated match. I knew we had a tough division and a win right off the bat would help the teams confidence. Both the duck line and the spider monkeys played good with the spider monkeys winning all there points. No major penalties and all of our pick ups from the off season really helped us coast through our first victory.
Match 2- Ironmen
This match was something else. We had time to watch there game against infamous the day before and they lost 6-8. The score doesnt really express how bad infamous was beating them, I think at one point it was 8-1 infamous but then the ironmen came back and scored 5 un answered points. I thought we had there breakouts pinned down, and we came out the first point and won it convincingly. But, then we threw it right back, it went like this until they started to go heavy up the center. Which come to find out was one of our major weaknesses. As the duck line captain I had no idea how to stop them, we played Philly the prior weekend and in 6 matches I think the x was used maybe 3 times. We figured it was no good, but the Ironmen proved it was key and brought the score to like 6-2 at the half. Now, after some discussion in the pit at the half, I was ready to go undefeated in the second half. Apparently we all figured that and decided being hit by paintballs didnt conjure up a good enough reason to make us leave the field. The second half we acquired two 5 minute penalties which basically was the nail on the coffin making it close to impossible to comeback.
Match 3- Infamous
Coming into this match it we knew we had to win in order to make it to Sunday. Infamous played a good game and we did not. Our team is probably the most unique team out there. We pride ourselves on being friends who all play pro paintball together. But on this day we did not play as a team, we lost more 4 on 2s and 3-2s then ever before. We came to this event after having a great weekend in practice, and really gelling as a team. We even won the first match quite convincingly. But, in the end we were not prepared enough, I or we were overconfident in each other. Its hard to accept that youre not as good as the other team and on that day we were not as good as infamous. I felt like I left my line (the ducks) down by not having the right game plan going into the match which really helped them get some quick early points. I promise now the season is underway and the grind has started. The next x ball event we will be the better team when the time comes.

2/15/07 - Hurricanes connect with local fan ...story

2/13/07 - Greg "Buddy" Hinthorne, Brian "Giggles" Gigliotti and Chris "Poo" Costigan rejoin the Hurricanes..........Welcome Home Boys

Statement on new players:
From Robert "Rosie" Rose

The Hurricanes are very happy to announce the return of three very missed young men to our family. Brian Gigliotti, Chris "Poo" Costigan and Greg "Buddy" Hinthorne were and are once again Hurricanes.

These three very talented players have been exploring other avenues in paintball over the last few seasons and have been part of some top level Pro teams, both in the NXL and the NPPL.

These guys are going to make a big impact on the team and help add to the already great mix of competitive, talented, and well mannered players that exist on the Hurricanes today.

The team made great strides and improvements all last year, but with these three kids joining the roster, the team will be extremely powerful and deep with talent. There will not be an area within the roster that will not be strong this season, and we have competition at every position.

Brian, Chris and Buddy - welcome back home!

Statement on Sponsors:
From Jeff Stein

Our goal coming into this season was to remove any impediments to the team's success and that starts with our gear. From head to toe, we have the best in breed. The best markers, the best paint, the best packs, the best hoppers, the best masks and the best field.

We are very excited to continue our relationship with Redz. This is the company that brought the Hurricanes into the Pro division, and it feels great to be their top representative in the pros today. Likewise, KEE has been a friend and sponsor of the team from the start, and we are looking forward to representing their Vents, Halo, Pure Energy and Evil products.

And we are very excited to begin anew our relationship with Planet Eclipse. It has been my personal goal to be a Planet Eclipse flagship team for years, all the way back to the days of 10 man, and to finally see this become a reality is a dream come true.

And helping to tie it all together is Boston Paintball, the premiere store, field and series in New England. It only makes sense that the Hurricanes and Boston stand together representing the best that New England paintball has to offer.

We look forward to representing all of our sponsors and to helping bring a new era of growth to the New England paintball community, to working with other long time friends of the team, such as PnL Paintball, Paintball Authority and International Paintball Systems.

We look forward to doing all of our sponsors and all of New England - proud this season.
